Celebrating Our Sisters and Matriarchs of Movement at NatWest

Hey Guysss,

I am thrilled to share an incredible experience I had, which was speaking at the NatWest Black History Month event dedicated to Celebrating our Sisters and Matriarchs of Movement. It was a profound honour to be part of such a meaningful gathering, and I am excited to reflect on the empowering moments and insights shared during this remarkable event.

The Power of Recognition

The event was a powerful acknowledgment of the often unsung heroines within the Black community, our Sisters and Matriarchs of Movement. It was a moment to celebrate their resilience, leadership, and unwavering commitment to positive change. The importance of recognising and amplifying the voices of these trailblazers cannot be overstated.

Sharing Stories, Inspiring Futures

One of the highlights of the event was the opportunity to share stories. Narratives have the power to shape perspectives, inspire action, and foster a sense of unity. As we collectively delved into the stories of our Sisters and Matriarchs, it became evident that their journeys were not just personal but representative of a broader narrative of strength, courage, and empowerment.

A Personal Journey: Fleeing Ukraine and Facing Racism

In the spirit of sharing personal stories, I opened up about my own journey about having to flee Ukraine due to the war. The experience was challenging and underscored the importance of solidarity. As I sought shelter, I unfortunately encountered instances of racism, a stark reminder that even in the face of crisis, the fight against prejudice continues.

Building Bridges of Solidarity

Events like these serve as bridges, connecting individuals with shared values and aspirations. The sense of solidarity and unity in the room was palpable. It reinforced the notion that by coming together, supporting one another, and sharing our experiences, we can create a more inclusive and equitable future for all.

Gratitude for NatWest

I want to extend my sincere gratitude to NatWest and Blessing Mutamba for hosting such a meaningful and impactful event. Their commitment to fostering dialogue, celebrating diversity, and promoting financial inclusivity is commendable. It is through collaborations like these that we can create lasting change and uplift the voices of our Sisters and Matriarchs.

Moving Forward with Purpose

As we reflect on the Celebrating our Sisters and Matriarchs of Movement event, let us carry the inspiration and insights forward. Let us continue to celebrate the achievements of Black women, amplify their voices, and work collectively toward a future where every individual has the opportunity to thrive.

Thank you so much to NatWest for providing a platform for these crucial conversations. I am energised and motivated to continue advocating for positive change, drawing strength from the resilience of our Sisters and Matriarchs.

With Love,

Korrine Sky
