Sharing My Story with the Independent and BBC

I recently participated in two projects that shine a light on the challenges faced by African students in Ukraine, one year later.

In the first project, I had the privilege of speaking with three medical students, Jessica, Emmanuel, and Moses, as part of a BBC feature. Like me, they have all experienced setbacks in pursuing their educational aspirations due to the war. It was a humbling experience to hear their stories, and their courage and resilience left me feeling hopeful. I also had the pleasure of working with an amazing team – Leone, Patricia, Aaron, and James – who were incredibly supportive and compassionate.

The second project was a digital feature for The Independent, in which I shared my personal story with journalist Nadine White. Nadine is an amazing journalist and someone I find to be very inspirational.

I felt comfortable being vulnerable with her and expressing how the past year has impacted me. The feature sheds light on the struggles faced by African students trying to flee Ukraine during the war and the racism they encountered at the borders. I am honored to have been a part of both of these projects and to have had the opportunity to raise awareness about the challenges faced by African students in Ukraine.
